Tell us about yourself and how long you’ve been with Optimal Dynamics.

My name is Joe Wagner, I’m an Engineering Manager. I’m based in Chicago, IL and I’ve been with Optimal Dynamics since April 2021.

Can you summarize your job in one sentence?

As an Engineering Manager for the Partner Integrations team, I’m responsible for leading and orchestrating the team to develop and implement seamless and scalable connections between our customer’s various systems (e.g., TMS/ELD) and Optimal Dynamics.

What inspired you the most to join Optimal Dynamics?

What inspired me most to join Optimal Dynamics was the combination of its people and technology. While I wasn’t actively pursuing a new opportunity, after speaking with various folks at OD and gaining insight into the challenging problems they were solving, the decision to join became evident.

What do you like best about our company culture?

I can go on for days about our company culture but what jumps out at me is the inherent curiosity and kindness among everyone at OD. This curiosity fuels innovation, fosters an environment where learning is valued and encouraged, and cultivates a sense of openness and collaboration within our company.

What is unique about what we do at Optimal Dynamics?

At Optimal Dynamics, we empower our customers with innovative technology to enhance their decision-making capabilities every day.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Every day presents its own set of challenges in the logistics industry, where complexity is the norm. As part of the Integrations team at Optimal Dynamics, we handle a significant portion of the data flowing in and out of the company. While this data is crucial for decision-making and operational optimization, it also brings several challenges, including issues with data quality, silos, fragmentation, and lack of standardization. I really enjoy facing these challenges head on, however, collaborating with our customers and internal teams across Optimal Dynamics to organize and standardize this data for our engines is what drives my passion and keeps me motivated.

What have been your biggest accomplishments on our team, and what was the impact on the product/company?

One of my most significant accomplishments would be establishing a strong team. Upon joining Optimal Dynamics, I initiated the formation of the Partner Integrations team (internally known as team PI!), which has evolved into a talented and cohesive group over the past three years. Despite the remote nature of our work environment, our team has fostered a remarkable closeness that transcends physical boundaries. This collaborative spirit within our team has not only propelled us forward but has also played a pivotal role in the broader success of the company.

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

My professional growth while on our team has been fueled by the dynamic learning environment at Optimal Dynamics. Working alongside some of the brightest and most talented colleagues has been incredibly inspiring and has enriched my skill set in countless ways. Each day brings new opportunities for learning and growth, allowing me to expand my expertise and contribute to our team’s success.

What do you like to do in your free time?

A majority of my free time is spent with my wife and our smart and energetic 2.5 year old daughter. Additionally, I have a passion for travel and enjoy exploring new places whenever possible.

Can you share a hidden talent that no one knows about you?

I’ve got a pretty decent “green thumb”. Those that have been on video calls with me tend to notice the abundance of plants in my office. Thankfully, those that work with me have only seen my office.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who wants to work at Optimal Dynamics?

If you’re considering working at Optimal Dynamics, I’d encourage you to ask questions, listen actively, stay open-minded and always be kind.
